Theatre taught me discipline, confidence, and how to truly connect with the audience: Sunil Sharma

Mumbai: Dhurandhar actor Sunil Sharma began his acting journey with theater. He credits the stage for not only helping him to enhance his craft but also teaching him how to resonate with the audience.

“Theatre, especially at Prithvi Theatre, gave me a strong foundation. It taught me discipline, confidence, and how to truly connect with the audience,” he said, adding that the biggest lesson he learned is to live in the present moment. He continued, “When you surrender to the scene, emotions flow naturally.”

Having worked across theater, television, and films, Sunil shared that each medium is different. He said, “Stage is expressive, while screen is subtle. Theatre gives you emotional depth and strong fundamentals, which really helps in screen performances. I adapted by refining my performance for the camera. I had to unlearn being too loud and expressive. It was challenging, but I learned to internalize emotions for the screen.”

He has also portrayed characters like Lord Shiva, Ram, and Krishna in shows like Shri Ganesh. Talking about it, he said, “I stay true to the essence of the character while bringing honesty to my performance. I focused on understanding the spiritual essence of the characters and maintained discipline to portray them with sincerity.”

“These roles made me more patient, grounded, and spiritually aware—both as an actor and as a person,” Sunil ended.
